My Creative Path

From UX to ISO — a left-brained, right-eyed creative carving out a visual lane.

I’m Jake — a Melbourne-based photographer and filmmaker with a background in design, tech, and just enough delightful chaos to keep things interesting.

I grew up in Perth, where I first studied graphic design and got my start in the creative industry. After moving to Melbourne, I dived into animation and interactive media at RMIT, then transitioned into UX design — working across marketing and IT consultancies before taking my skills to London. There, I worked with fintech startups and software agencies, blending creativity with systems thinking.

Then COVID happened.

Like a lot of us, I hit reset. Photography became my anchor — a way to process, express, and create without needing a client brief or a product roadmap. It quickly turned from coping tool to calling.

After returning to Melbourne (with some border-crossing drama), I enrolled at Photography Studies College and completed a BA in Photography and Digital Imaging. Through PSC, I built real technical foundations and found a creative community that helped me grow.

Now I shoot full-time — across branded content, campaigns, documentary, and stills/video production. My approach blends structured thinking with creative freedom — grounded in collaboration, curiosity, and a calm presence on set.

This is me, leaning into a neuro-divergent brain, an emotionally tuned-in lens, and a love for making visuals that feel as good as they look..

What I’m Like to Work With

Working with me is a bit like teaming up with someone who’s equal parts producer, hype-person, and quietly obsessive detail goblin. I bring a calm, collaborative energy to shoots — I don’t shout, I don’t micromanage, and I try to make people feel like themselves in front of the lens.

I’m honest and direct — sometimes to a fault and it comes with being a lil neuro-spicy — but I always intend on making things better for the work. I’ll tell you if something’s not working, and I appreciate when others do the same. It makes the work stronger, and cuts through the BS.

I’m not perfect — I overthink, I second-guess, and I’ll probably triple-check things most people wouldn’t notice. But it’s always because I care about doing the job well, not just getting it done.

I take my work seriously, not myself. I’m emotionally tuned in, technically capable, and happiest when the vibes are good and the vision is clear
